This edition was dedicated to a XIXth century Polish painter Aleksander Gierymski, who is the best known for his magnificent approach to light in his realistic and often naturalistic art.
This edition was dedicated to a XIXth century Polish painter Aleksander Gierymski, who is the best known for his magnificent approach to light in his realistic and often naturalistic art.
The most known of his paintings are "Jewess with Oranges" and "In the bower".
Poster tells the story of the light itself.
The idea behind the visual is to capture the unique luministic attitude Gierymski has in his paintings and to highlight the connection between two very different paitings which are "Jewess with the oranges" and "In the bower". It also honours the colour palette of those paintings from the luminous angle, and connects XIXth century with young generation of students competing in the contest.
The challenge was to tell a story of the two very contrasting images and the style of a realism painter and translate it into the brief language of a poster.
It is storytelling as well as informative, remaining the main source of informations about the competition.
The poster was designed to be presented at the National Museum in Warsaw, which is a home for the paintings of the artist, as well as the collection of art from ancient times to modern times.
It represents a meating between classical art and young aspiring researchers, and connects image with word which was the main medium of expression for future art historians in which they expressed their knowledge, thoughts and voices about the matter.
